Sensitizing solution

Dissolve 27 gr of ferric ammonium citrate in 100ml distilled water. Dissolve 4,5 gr of tartaric acid in 100ml distilled water. Dissolve 12 gr of silver nitrate in 100ml distilled water.

Working under dimmed light, combine the three solutions in this order:

-add the tartaric acid solution to the ferric ammonium citrate solution.

-add the silver nitrate solution to the previous one.

Stir thoroughly, using non-metallic tools. The sensitizing solution is now ready, store it in the bottle included in the kit.

Allow the solution to mature, wait for 24/48 before you use it. You can store it for several months in a dark bottle kept in a fresh site.

Apply the solution on the paper with the brush; you may also work under dimmed light.

The solution is only sensitive to ultraviolet rays, so avoid daily sunlight and florescent and energy-saving lamps. Wait for the solution to dry, then press the negative on the paper and expose it to UV.

Development

Develop by washing in water. It is possible that, due to the chlorine contained in domestic water as a disinfectant, you will see the formation of white flakes of silver chloride, that will dissolve as you proceed with the washing.

To enhance the ferric salts dissolution it is best to add a small quantity of citric acid in the first wash.

Fixing

Dissolve the sodium thyosulfate in 1 liter of demineralized water and store it in the labeled bottle included in the kit.

As you place the print into the bath, the image tones to brown.

2-3 minutes are enough for the fixing.

Rinse under running water for 10-15 minutes and let it air dry. Do not heat the print.

Warning: some chemicals may be dangerous and toxic.

No one can do a good job without proper tools, and the chemicals can be defined, the tools of the photographer. This is the weak point of many operators. They work with economic and inferior chemicals, and many do not know the true composition; not to mention unwanted interferences that can be created between them.
“Chemicals are the tools of art photographers. Through a deep knowledge of photo chemistry the artist can reach and master the art photography level.”
